For those of us who are not intimately familiar with the intricacies of British history - it is often difficult to distinguish between Great Britain, the United Kingdom, England and Scotland. The terminology just sort of blends together, and is so often interchanged in the media.
Actually, Great Britain refers to the political union which resulted between England and Scotland. At one point this union also included Ireland.
